The new Venture Award:
The Olympian Award

Report by CSL Anita Muscat
6 July 2013

Work on the new Venture award, the Olympian Award, started in 2008 with a Venture Forum. Work continued in the following years until the official launch of the new Venture/Rover programme took place on the 6th July 2013.

The Symbolic Framework for this program is Greek Mythology and proposes a journey for the youth in the Venture Unit, a journey to Olympus. During this journey, which can be achieved over a time frame of 3 years and a half, the Venture Scout needs to complete different tasks in different missions.

This programme is aimed at members aged 14 and a half to 18 years. It starts with a Link Badge (Theseus) from the Troop to the Unit. It continues with 6 missions named after different Greek Gods (Apollo, Athena, Hermes, Poseidon, Demeter and Hades) which tasks are based around areas of skills and interests which are characteristic of those particular gods. The Venture Scout would need to achieve all the missions in order to finally achieve the Olympian Award.

Members of the Victoria Scout group were present for the launch of the new award. Further meetings will be held in the coming months to finalize the programme.
